Renew worn slate floors and surfaces with skilled local craftsmen across Pittsburgh
Slate brings bold texture and natural style to Pittsburgh homes and commercial spaces, but constant use and changing seasons can leave it looking faded, stained, chipped, or uneven. Tracked in grit, winter slush, and everyday wear can settle into slate’s natural clefts and highlight lippage, scratches, and dull traffic lanes. MARBLELIFE® Pittsburgh provides professional slate restoration that renews the stone’s depth and improves how it looks and feels underfoot. Our craftsmen begin with a detailed evaluation, then deep clean to remove embedded buildup, correct surface wear, and address common issues such as scratches, uneven edges, and small areas of damage. Whether your slate is in an entryway, kitchen, shower, patio, fireplace surround, or lobby, we tailor the process to your slate type and traffic patterns so the finished surface looks more uniform and intentional.
To help your slate hold up in Pittsburgh conditions, we can complete restoration with professional sealing and protective treatments that reduce absorption and make routine cleaning easier. We use stone specific methods and MARBLELIFE products designed for natural surfaces, avoiding harsh household chemicals that can leave residue or weaken the finish over time. Frequently Asked Questions
Slate restoration is a professional process that cleans, repairs, and refinishes slate surfaces to revive its natural luster, remove stains, repair light damage, and produce a more uniform finish.
Signs that your slate needs restoration include a dull or chalky appearance, visible scratches or chips, uneven tiles, dark soil lines in grout, and areas that still look dirty even after cleaning. If your usual cleaning routine no longer delivers a fresh look, it is time to call MARBLELIFE® Pittsburgh for an evaluation.
MARBLELIFE craftsmen can correct embedded soil, soap or cleaner buildup, many stains, light etching, surface wear, minor cracks or chips, and excessive lippage between tiles. We focus on restoring a safe, attractive, and easier to maintain surface across your entire slate installation.
Our process typically includes inspection, professional stone safe cleaning, targeted repair of chips or cracks, refinishing or honing to refine the surface, and application of an appropriate sealer when needed. Each project is customized based on the condition of your slate, the desired finish, and how the area is used.
Yes. By removing buildup, correcting surface irregularities, and applying the right sealer where appropriate, MARBLELIFE slate restoration can make your floors smoother, more stain resistant, and less likely to trap soil. This helps your regular cleaning efforts work better and keeps your slate looking fresh longer.
In most cases, yes. After restoring the slate surface, we recommend a professional sealer that helps guard against staining, moisture penetration, and everyday spills. Our team will recommend the correct sealer type for your specific slate and location, whether it is indoors, outdoors, residential, or commercial.
Frequency depends on traffic levels, type of use, and how the floors are maintained between professional visits. Many residential clients only need full restoration occasionally, while regular cleaning and periodic resealing can maintain results for years. MARBLELIFE® Pittsburgh can design a maintenance plan that fits your home and lifestyle.
In many situations, yes. Our technicians can adjust the refinement level of the surface to create a more consistent look across older and newer areas. During your consultation, we will review your goals and discuss what can be achieved in terms of gloss level, color enhancement, and overall uniformity.
MARBLELIFE uses professional equipment and containment practices to protect surrounding areas and limit dust and debris. While some noise and activity are expected, our team works efficiently and cleans up thoroughly at the end of the project so you can get back to using your space with minimal disruption.
Scheduling is simple. Contact MARBLELIFE® Pittsburgh by phone or through our online request form to arrange a free on site evaluation. Our craftsman will inspect your slate, discuss your concerns and goals, and provide a clear written recommendation and estimate for restoration.
Posted on Ludwig ReimmerTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I hired MARBLELIFE Pittsburgh for a quartz kitchen sink recut and was extremely pleased. Bob did exceptional work, surpassing what my wife and I expected. Communication was timely, and the quoted price matched the final cost. Highly recommend their reliable, professional service—definitely a 5+ star experience!Posted on wade saucierTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Pittsburgh Marblelife team was excellent. Restored an old 84 year old stone floor that had some water damage to the stones. Very happy with the results. At first we were going to place a wall to wall rug in the room. But after the restoration we decided to keep the floor exposed due to the fine restoration work. Thank you!Posted on Kalena ThomhaveTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I had a great experience with MARBLELIFE and Bob, and wholeheartedly recommend them. Bob and his team cleaned, honed, and sealed my kitchen countertops, and they look so beautiful. I’m not usually a review writer, but I have also never experienced being in love with kitchen counters. My partner and I are doing a low-cost “remodel” of our kitchen—you know, new paint job, new lighting fixtures, and other changes that don’t mean gutting and renovating and tens of thousands of dollars. Our granite countertops were perfectly useable, but I didn’t really like them. However, I knew replacing them would not only be wasteful, but also super expensive. I did some research, and I thought that getting them honed to a matte finish would make them fit the style of the kitchen better. Before I talked to Bob at MARBLELIFE, I talked to a couple other fabricators who weren’t interested in tackling our counters. And I think I get why—it would not only be a hard project, but matte counters are more finicky, so customers might not be pleased with the additional care needed. But Bob was totally open to honing our countertops! He was very communicative—we talked mostly by text, which is nice for millennials and also because I could easily pull up our conversation if I forgot details of something he said, and we also connected over the phone. Pricing was clear and reasonable with no surprises. Bob and his team completed the job quickly and even left us some sealant for the next time the counters need it. AND THEY LOOK SO GOOD! This review is getting too long, but let me just say if you’re thinking about a matte finish: the colors of the stone are so much richer and it’s also so clear the counters are made of NATURAL STONE. Yes we need to be better about taking care of it, but I don’t mind. If I knew more about granite and stone I know I could say more about how professional Bob was, but I can say that it is clear he’s both an expert and a good and reliable businessperson. If and when we have any other issues with stone or tile, I know who we will be calling!Posted on Marianne DeanTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Kristen and Bob were very responsive, timely and professional. They repaired a large scratch in my corian countertop, replaced the caulking and repaired a chip in my ceramic tile floor. Their work was incredible. The Corian and the ceramic tile look like the day I bought them. I highly recommend Marblelife!Posted on Rocky MedureTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Bob and his team restored our slate floor and did an absolutely amazing job. Their care and effort shine through. Huge thanks to them for excellent customer service and thoughtfulness.Posted on Jane PTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Superb workmanship and excellent service! We have a 20-yr old travertine bathroom and shower that had never been professionally cleaned before. Bob and his team were able to clean/sand away etching and stains from the counter and shower entry and deep clean the shower, removing soap scum and mildew. It looks as good as it did 20 years ago! Bob also cleaned and sealed our granite kitchen counter. We had a sink that was installed without proper supports and we have dealt with leaks along the rim for years. Because Bob has experience with stone installation, he was able to reinstall the sink with proper supports - it has never been more secure. Throughout the process, Bob consults you to make sure you are happy with what they are doing and will adjust as needed. We couldn't be happier with the service and will use Bob on a regular basis for deep cleaning and resealing.Posted on Jim HarpsterTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Our countertop was damaged by the stove installers. Bob and his wife came to the rescue and made our countertop look like it as brand new! He was fast, clean and efficient!Posted on innocentrage1Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I had a stress fracture crack in my quartz countertop and Bob came out and looked at it and told me because it was quartz, a man made stone, he could glue it back together but it was highly possible that in a year or two it may crack again and suggested a new countertop may be the better option. Bob has many years experience in this business and had a list of contacts he provided me. I contacted one of those contacts and got a beautiful new countertop that was way better than the crafmanship of my old countertops done by a chain retail store. Even though Bob did not get my business this time I will be using him in the future for any services with my new countertops. I admire him for helping me and making suggestions even though it didn't make him a profit. A lot of companies would of just taken my money with a quick glue fix and I would have run into the same problem later down the road.Posted on John BaronTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Bob and his team were fantastic. They went out of their way to get me out of a situation concerning a marble mosaic floor and exceeded all my expectations. Can’t thank them enough.Posted on Rob RikerTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. These guys really over-delivered! We understood that the 136 yrs of baked-on soot were likely to be impossible to clean completely, and confirmed with several quotes. But they gave it a ton of time and attention and got it much further than we dared hope. A good bit of structural repair and an exceptional attention to detail rounded out a great project. They were reliable schedulers and good communicators, both rare to find in in-home contractors. Looking forward to having them back to help with more fireplaces. One warning: for work like this with structural repair it would be good to schedule when windows can be open, as their epoxy has a powerful odor! Was eager to leave this review & share our enthusiasm.Load more
