Travertine Sealing Services in Pittsburgh | MARBLELIFE
Protect travertine from moisture and staining with professional sealing across Pittsburgh
Help your travertine stand up to daily use in Pittsburgh with professional sealing from MARBLELIFE® Pittsburgh. Travertine is naturally porous, which means water, oils, and grime can soak in and create darkened areas or stubborn staining if the stone is not properly protected. We begin by cleaning and preparing your travertine so the sealer can bond and perform correctly, whether the surface is in a kitchen, bathroom, shower, entryway, or outdoor living space. After preparation, we apply a premium penetrating sealer selected for natural stone to reduce absorption while still allowing the travertine to breathe. Proper sealing helps preserve the stone’s color and finish and makes routine cleanup simpler.
Our local team tailors each service to your surfaces and how they are used, from active family kitchens and busy bathrooms to lobbies, corridors, and other high traffic areas. If your travertine has open pits or pinholes, we can address those concerns and coordinate sealing with any needed cleaning, honing, polishing, or repairs for a more complete result. We also share practical guidance and stone safe product recommendations so your sealed travertine stays protected between visits. The result is a more consistent looking surface that resists staining better and remains easier to maintain over the long term.

Frequently Asked Questions
Travertine sealing is the application of a professional protective treatment that soaks into the pores of the stone and helps resist stains, moisture, and everyday soil. Because travertine is naturally porous, sealing is essential to reduce staining from food, drinks, soaps, and tracked in contaminants and to support long term restoration results.
Frequency depends on traffic, type of finish, and what the surface is exposed to, but many Pittsburgh homeowners benefit from resealing every one to three years. High traffic kitchens, entries, and commercial spaces may need attention more often, while lightly used areas may go longer. MARBLELIFE can evaluate your stone and recommend a schedule that fits your space and lifestyle.
Travertine sealing is ideal for interior floors, kitchen and bath countertops, shower walls and pans, tub surrounds, fireplaces, and select exterior applications where appropriate. If you are not sure whether a particular installation should be sealed, a MARBLELIFE® Pittsburgh craftsman can review it during your consultation.
Most penetrating sealers are formulated to preserve the natural appearance of the stone while adding protection. In many cases, there is little to no visible change once the product cures. If you are interested in enhancing color or depth of tone, MARBLELIFE can discuss optional treatments that enrich the look while still providing protective benefits.
Penetrating sealers soak into the stone to help resist stains from the inside out without leaving a film on the surface, which is preferred for travertine. Topical sealers sit on top of the stone like a coating and can peel, flake, or create maintenance challenges, so they are generally not recommended for this material.
A simple splash test can help. If water or a mild liquid quickly darkens the stone and soaks in instead of beading on the surface, the existing sealer may be wearing away. Other signs include increased staining, difficulty removing spills, or a general look of dullness even after cleaning. MARBLELIFE can confirm the condition of your sealer during an on site visit.
Yes. MARBLELIFE can fill chips, cracks, and open pits in your travertine with professional repair methods and color matched materials before sealing. Addressing these imperfections first helps create a smoother, more attractive surface and allows the sealer to perform more effectively.
Most residential projects can be completed in a single visit, although larger or more complex areas may require additional time for preparation, repairs, and curing. Your MARBLELIFE® Pittsburgh team will provide a time estimate based on square footage, condition of the stone, and how many rooms are being treated.
Use MARBLELIFE recommended neutral or stone safe cleaners and avoid acidic products such as vinegar or harsh chemicals, which can damage the stone and wear down the sealer. Wipe up spills promptly, use mats in high traffic areas, and follow any care instructions provided after your service to keep surfaces looking their best.
MARBLELIFE is a national leader in stone care, and the Pittsburgh team brings that experience to every local project with trained craftsmen, proven processes, and dedicated customer support. From detailed surface preparation to product selection and follow up care guidance, we focus on delivering durable protection and a beautiful finish for every travertine surface we seal.
Posted on Ludwig ReimmerTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I hired MARBLELIFE Pittsburgh for a quartz kitchen sink recut and was extremely pleased. Bob did exceptional work, surpassing what my wife and I expected. Communication was timely, and the quoted price matched the final cost. Highly recommend their reliable, professional service—definitely a 5+ star experience!Posted on wade saucierTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Pittsburgh Marblelife team was excellent. Restored an old 84 year old stone floor that had some water damage to the stones. Very happy with the results. At first we were going to place a wall to wall rug in the room. But after the restoration we decided to keep the floor exposed due to the fine restoration work. Thank you!Posted on Kalena ThomhaveTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I had a great experience with MARBLELIFE and Bob, and wholeheartedly recommend them. Bob and his team cleaned, honed, and sealed my kitchen countertops, and they look so beautiful. I’m not usually a review writer, but I have also never experienced being in love with kitchen counters. My partner and I are doing a low-cost “remodel” of our kitchen—you know, new paint job, new lighting fixtures, and other changes that don’t mean gutting and renovating and tens of thousands of dollars. Our granite countertops were perfectly useable, but I didn’t really like them. However, I knew replacing them would not only be wasteful, but also super expensive. I did some research, and I thought that getting them honed to a matte finish would make them fit the style of the kitchen better. Before I talked to Bob at MARBLELIFE, I talked to a couple other fabricators who weren’t interested in tackling our counters. And I think I get why—it would not only be a hard project, but matte counters are more finicky, so customers might not be pleased with the additional care needed. But Bob was totally open to honing our countertops! He was very communicative—we talked mostly by text, which is nice for millennials and also because I could easily pull up our conversation if I forgot details of something he said, and we also connected over the phone. Pricing was clear and reasonable with no surprises. Bob and his team completed the job quickly and even left us some sealant for the next time the counters need it. AND THEY LOOK SO GOOD! This review is getting too long, but let me just say if you’re thinking about a matte finish: the colors of the stone are so much richer and it’s also so clear the counters are made of NATURAL STONE. Yes we need to be better about taking care of it, but I don’t mind. If I knew more about granite and stone I know I could say more about how professional Bob was, but I can say that it is clear he’s both an expert and a good and reliable businessperson. If and when we have any other issues with stone or tile, I know who we will be calling!Posted on Marianne DeanTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Kristen and Bob were very responsive, timely and professional. They repaired a large scratch in my corian countertop, replaced the caulking and repaired a chip in my ceramic tile floor. Their work was incredible. The Corian and the ceramic tile look like the day I bought them. I highly recommend Marblelife!Posted on Rocky MedureTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Bob and his team restored our slate floor and did an absolutely amazing job. Their care and effort shine through. Huge thanks to them for excellent customer service and thoughtfulness.Posted on Jane PTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Superb workmanship and excellent service! We have a 20-yr old travertine bathroom and shower that had never been professionally cleaned before. Bob and his team were able to clean/sand away etching and stains from the counter and shower entry and deep clean the shower, removing soap scum and mildew. It looks as good as it did 20 years ago! Bob also cleaned and sealed our granite kitchen counter. We had a sink that was installed without proper supports and we have dealt with leaks along the rim for years. Because Bob has experience with stone installation, he was able to reinstall the sink with proper supports - it has never been more secure. Throughout the process, Bob consults you to make sure you are happy with what they are doing and will adjust as needed. We couldn't be happier with the service and will use Bob on a regular basis for deep cleaning and resealing.Posted on Jim HarpsterTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Our countertop was damaged by the stove installers. Bob and his wife came to the rescue and made our countertop look like it as brand new! He was fast, clean and efficient!Posted on innocentrage1Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I had a stress fracture crack in my quartz countertop and Bob came out and looked at it and told me because it was quartz, a man made stone, he could glue it back together but it was highly possible that in a year or two it may crack again and suggested a new countertop may be the better option. Bob has many years experience in this business and had a list of contacts he provided me. I contacted one of those contacts and got a beautiful new countertop that was way better than the crafmanship of my old countertops done by a chain retail store. Even though Bob did not get my business this time I will be using him in the future for any services with my new countertops. I admire him for helping me and making suggestions even though it didn't make him a profit. A lot of companies would of just taken my money with a quick glue fix and I would have run into the same problem later down the road.Posted on John BaronTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Bob and his team were fantastic. They went out of their way to get me out of a situation concerning a marble mosaic floor and exceeded all my expectations. Can’t thank them enough.Posted on Rob RikerTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. These guys really over-delivered! We understood that the 136 yrs of baked-on soot were likely to be impossible to clean completely, and confirmed with several quotes. But they gave it a ton of time and attention and got it much further than we dared hope. A good bit of structural repair and an exceptional attention to detail rounded out a great project. They were reliable schedulers and good communicators, both rare to find in in-home contractors. Looking forward to having them back to help with more fireplaces. One warning: for work like this with structural repair it would be good to schedule when windows can be open, as their epoxy has a powerful odor! Was eager to leave this review & share our enthusiasm.Load more
